Obituary for Charles R. Jocelyn

BAKERSFIELD – Charles R. Jocelyn, age 78, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at The Villa Rehab Center in St. Albans.

He was born October 6, 1938 in Burlington to the late Willard & Helen (Ross) Jocelyn.

Charlie loved his time on the mountain and after retiring in 1995 he moved there for good. Cutting wood for his winter heat was his summer work, and he loved a wood pile that was stacked correctly. He enjoyed the harsh mountain weather and always punctuated any discussion about it with “This isn’t Burlington you know!”

Keeping track of the camps and the people on the mountain was a task that Charlie always enjoyed. Checking camps on his four-wheeler, visiting neighbors to offer help on a camp project, or even just supervising, he was a fixture on Belvidere Mountain Road.

He is survived by his son, Charles “Chuck” Jocelyn and his wife Maureen and their daughter Charlotte all of Milton and his siblings, Donald Jocelyn, Ann Blanchard and Virginia Godin and her husband Peter. Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his brother, Willard Jocelyn.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Bakersfield and Fairfield, East Bakersfield Rd., Bakersfield. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.

For those who wish, contributions in Charles’ memory may be made to the Bakersfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 12, Bakersfield, VT 05441.
